I have a 75 Midget and it doesn't like to down shift from while moving. If I get down below 10mph it will allow a down shift from 3rd to 2nd. Can only down shift to 1st when car is stopped. Is this normal for these cars or is it a sign that I need to rework the tranny?

How does it act? Does it grind, or very stiff, or stuck? I'd drain the trans and check for metal in the gear oil. If none, fill with fresh oil. Retry. If metal............

Makes a grind noise like the gears don't want to sync up. I haven't wanted to force it and really break something so if I go to down shift and hear grinding I just return it to the previous gear. It seems to be geared really low so for the most can drive fine without, just wish I had the ability to get down into 2nd gear sometimes

It will grind if you try to force it into the lower gear while the vehicle is moving, there is no sluggish performance. Every thing moves freely when parked. Bled the clutch and it didn't seem to offer much improvement.
Events prevented much tinkering over the summer now I am just getting back to it.
