Has anyone replaced the the front wheel bearing with a roller type bearing instead of the standard ball bearing? The driver side outer bearing blew apart while accelerating out a round-about, luckily I was real close to home.
My research shows that the inner bearing is a Timken 7205 and the outer bearing is a Timken 7303. According to Timken the roller bearing upgrade is 30205M and 30303. The roller bearings are about half the price of the ball bearing. Victoria British sells a bearing kit for $60. If I go direct to bearing dealers it comes up about the same price if I stick with ball bearings and it is a little harder to find. If I go with the roller bearing then I can get new bearings and seals for both wheels for about $60

my recommendation is to stay with the original roller bearing - see Colin Doods tech session on his website www.SpriteParts.com.au - he is the absolute guru when it comes to Sprites and MG's - I am currently restoring a '73 Midget - installing a 5 speed tranny and maybe a total overhaul?
